A Delightful Downsize

Every design project has a story and I like to think of our team as the supporting cast. Our client’s lifestyle was changing and they were ready to sell the home where they raised their family. So room by room we edited, shared and donated; clothes, furniture & home decor. Then we recorded, measured & organized all the pieces that would make the move, with a priority for the heirloom pieces. Moving can be an emotional time and stressful when your new place requires a remodel as well. Our priorities in the overall design concept were to open up the space for more natural light and maximize every square foot. The scope of work for the remodel began with gutting the kitchen and removing the wall between the kitchen and the dining room. All new hardwood floors and new built-ins were added for the fireplace wall. The overall color palette was approved in white with accents of blue and teal. Shapes & patterns in the design details leaned towards geometric shapes. As you will see, we are going to create a mix of modern elements with our client’s special antiques and modern artwork.

Classic geometric patterns in the custom area rug work mirror the quilting squares we applied to counter stools. Modern artwork & the great find of Glass lamps bring teal to the room.

Removing the wall immediately let more natural light in the kitchen area and improved the flow throughout the main floor.

I so appreciated how our client was “all in” for selecting two different finishes to create an updated design in her cabinetry.

In the end, our story was complete and was met with a delightful applause for a project that is providing more time for our client’s lifestyle of adventures near & far. Closing the curtain on this project was one in which we all felt a great sense of joy in seeing our client’s delight with their new home. If you or anyone you know is downsizing, please reach out to our studio and we would be happy to discuss your project together.
