Our Collaboration with Heartwood Coffee Roasters
Little did we know that a beautiful collaboration supporting children in Nairobi, Kenya, would begin when a local coffee roaster opened in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. That coffee roaster is Heartwood. At the shop, l have always enjoyed my time gathering with friends or meetings for our interior design studio. It was the love of coffee that pulled me in, but the variety of international flavors kept me returning. I wanted to learn more from these expert baristas and try the different single origins too.
Then one day, I saw bags of coffee beans from Kenya on the shelf at Heartwood. When I got back to the studio, I mentioned to Gabby, our Marketing Specialist, and Photographer, “wouldn’t it be great to have Kenya coffee benefit the children of Hope Markers?” And she went right to work to make it happen. The owner and founder of Heartwood, Jim Sanders, researched Hope Markers and knew they wanted to help. They wanted this idea of hope to work. There were steps in planning that would benefit two local businesses; coffee and design. Heartwood received a free hour of design consultation for their renovations in their shop, and we received a beautifully Kenya single-origin coffee. Yet, the main benefit of this collaboration is that it helped create life-changing opportunities for the children of the slums in Kenya through Hope Markers.
