My Interior Design Process in 4 Steps

Starting a new year is a time when we all think about what lies ahead. What new discoveries we will find? What are our priorities within our wish list or goals? Well, this thought process is very similar to how we begin every residential and contract design project.

Here are the 4 steps to our Interior Design Process

Discovery Phase

In the Discovery Phase, I ask a lot of questions, listen, learn, and gather information to understand the desire of my client’s vision for their project. What’s most important to them? And how will the space function to fit their lifestyle? How we do capture their style that creates more than they imagined. Creating a beautiful, timeless, space is what we do. In the end, the budget, their investment should create an environment that uplifts & enriches their daily life. So really for us, the client becomes the inspiration for the space, the muse if you will.

The Design Phase

The Design Phase begins with the schematics of all that is possible for the interior design project. We first begin by reviewing all the architectural renderings. I like to start with the bones of the structure, where can we add higher quality ie another layer to the interior architecture through elements such as trim, moldings, and built-ins. Secondly, where can we add more natural light, can we additional windows or larger windows. Third, we'll decide on the flooring, whether it will be hardwood, stone, tile, or concrete. Fourth, our favorite, the Lighting Package the jewels of their home. We next focus on hardware throughout for cabinetry, and all the doors inside and out. Last but not least we decide what their overall color scheme will be.

Selection Phase

After the schematics have been approved by the client, I have usually already begun making selections for the furnishings everything from area rugs, antiques, fabrics & trim, upholstery furniture, dining table chairs, case goods, window treatments, artwork, and decoratives. The selection phase is what clients really enjoy as they begin to visualize our results coming together. We collaborate with local artisans and design businesses to construct custom pieces and have established accounts with manufacturers to customize our furniture.

Installation Phase

As all our orders have arrived at our warehouse, the final step is Install Day. And we are just as excited as our client. Our goal is to provide exceptional service with innovative design. Never letting go of the mindset to create something beautiful with a purpose to enrich and add joy to their home.
