Understanding Window Treatments

Understanding window treatments and their importance to your interiors is a design step that we love to share with clients. They are important from the very beginning of the design process. When asking questions in the discovery phase we need to understand the functionality of each room and how much natural light is available. There are endless ways to be creative in window treatments while personalizing them to be just right for each room.

We’ve put together a list of important thoughts to consider when selecting your window treatments:

1. What will be the functionality of the room?

2. Which way does the room face to understand the opportunities of natural light?

3. How will the window treatments tie in to the overall design concept of the room?

4. Will my investment prove beneficial to the space?

5. What is the benefit of custom made draperies verses ready-made drapes?

Here’s a few installations of our window treatment designs plus other excellent examples.

This beautiful dining room has amazing windows that provide plenty of wonderful light & sunshine. Yet not only did we want the drapery panels to be elegant & pretty, they had to function as well in managing all that sunshine. When seated and dining, nothing is more uncomfortable than when the sunlight is right in your eyes, so we knew these draperies had to function in controlling the natural light.

The project below is a great example of how custom window treatments tie a room all together to be oh so pretty. This large L shaped room has an open concept that allows the living room and kitchen to seamlessly flow together.

These colorful large print drapery panels are stationary, so how do they function? Their function is bringing two rooms together and framing an incredible view of gardens.

These 3 window treatments are perfect examples of how Roman Shades are always appreciated and enjoyed.

This teen’s sitting room definitely needed a Roman Shade to block the sun glare on the flatscreen for the latest sporting event. While also accenting the terrific architectural angles in the ceiling.

This large teen bedroom was the perfect space to mix patterns and textures in neutrals. Which included the stripe Roman Shade for the pladium window. Redirecting light with blinds would not be needed at this time. It was either full opened or closed. And we love the look.

One of our favorite guest bedrooms we designed needed softness and quietness. And the Romans Shades provided the requested darkness and assisted in providing a quiet space.

One of favorite products to work with are Woven Shades. Lined or unlined the beautiful textures available add warmth to a room. It’s another way to share elements of nature in all the neutrals of seagrass, bamboo, linen and silk. And these are just a few of the options we have available today.

Yes, custom window draperies are usually more expensive than ready made, yet that is where you get all the creative options with hardware, fabric, and detailed trim. Either way, window treatments bring a beautiful room all together while framing the wonderful views. And we know you will enjoy them in the years ahead.
